One of the fundamental things that we get wrong is telling people you need faith to become righteous. You don’t.
Look at this.
Romans 3:23-26
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood —to be received by faith.
He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished — he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the PRESENT TIME so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
When you read these verses in the context of its timing, you will realise that the words “present time” is made in relation to the “present crisis” here:
1 Corinthians 7:26
Because of the PRESENT CRISIS, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is.
Here Paul tells Christians not to marry because of a “present crisis”.
Now let us consider this.
Romans 13:11
And do this, understanding the PRESENT TIME: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
This is not speaking about now but the crisis they had at that time. That crisis was the impending destruction of the Law, Jerusalem and its temple.
It’s not now.
As such faith righteousness is a thing of the past. What you have is imputed righteousness. It’s for all men independent of your faith.
