How Satan fell like lightning.

I was again said to be blaspheming against God’s Word when I said this was referring to the end of the Law.

Luke 10:18

He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

Let’s look at the passage.

Luke 10:4:1-2

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

First and foremost they were sent out 2 by 2. 2 is the minimum number of the synagogue. Jesus said when 2 or 3 are gathered in my name he will be there. So, this marked a departure from going to the temple in Jerusalem to look for God.

2nd. The words “the harvest is plentiful” simply means the time is up. The disciples were being told it’s near the climax of Jesus ministry. The Spirit of God who was with them now was going to in them soon.

The fact that they can heal and cast out demons was evidence of this fact.

So what is the general theme here?

Luke 10:10-12

But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’ I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.

This was the weeding out those who are sheep and goats. It’s actually the separation between those who will accept the new covenant and those who wouldn’t. Those who would follow the Law and stayed behind in Jerusalem and those who would leave.

This was the separation point. The long and short of it is simple. The temple the priests and the Law was coming to an end.

Their majesty might and pomp were coming to an end. Very soon all of these would be consumed by fire.

So when Jesus said Satan was falling like lightning he was saying the people who opposed the old covenant and the old covenant itself which opposed the new covenant was coming to an end.

The Hebrew word for opposer is Satan.

Dear Lord. It’s not Barack Obama.
