I had one guy who said I was perverting Jude to give people license to sin in one of articles base on this verse.
For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
There are many in the “law” camp who love to use this verse against the people in the “grace” camp and say that they twist the word to satisfy their natural lust.
What really is Jude about?
Here is an excerpt from a commentary from Bible hub.
“Date. It was probably written about A. D. 66. At any rate it must have been written before A. D. 70 when Jerusalem was destroyed, as Jude would hardly have failed to mention that event along with other examples of punishment”.
As such who are these people who were turning the grace of God Into license to sin?
It was the Jews who were trying to turn the Jews who had left Judaism to embrace Christ back into it.
These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted —twice dead.
Now read this.
“Woe to the worthless shepherd,
who deserts the flock!
May the sword strike his arm and his right eye!
May his arm be completely withered,
his right eye totally blinded!”
Now the context of this verse.
Mourning for the One They Pierced
“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
These bad shepherds are the Jews who killed Jesus on the cross.
They are not talking about people who believe the grace message.
You can see clearly there are those in the faith who were shaken by these infiltrators at that time.
Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
Now it is clear here that Paul said the same thing here.
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
Also you would note the “fires” and “the last times” refer to the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem which brought an end to the Law.
So much for teaching the wrong stuff. Don’t you hate it when people make accusations against you when they never bother to check out the audience relevance of a particular text.
