Hello Simon. lately, I have been trying to research about the AD 70 teaching and I have tried sharing with some friends. However, questions like if Jesus alreadt came, then what are we waiting for? If the old heaven and earth have already passed away, why do people still sin? Questions like that are kind of hard to answer. How best can i explain it to them? 😊
No. 1. Jesus did not say he will come back physically. He said he will come in the clouds. More importantly when he said that no one knew he was about to die. So Peter was not referring to a death 2000 years later but a return during his generation. It is Jewish in meaning. It means the coming to an end of an age.
The bible does not speak about the end of the world. I fact it speaks about ages. This means after the age of law and the age of grace there will still be further ages.
Ephesians tells. God’s grace and kindness is shown through us in the ages to come.
so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
See the words “coming ages”?
The words “heaven and earth” does not mean the world. It means the Temple in Jerusalem.
The new heaven and earth is the new temple made of all believers.
in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
So that’s why people still sin.
