Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
When we read these verses, we always think that this is about how hard we have to “hold on” to Jesus. About how we must obey his commandments.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Notice this is not the 10 commandments?
If you abide in me, and MY WORDS abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Notice this is about belief?
Didn’t Jesus we must love the way he does in order to be saved?
Look at this.
How do you produce the love of Jesus?
and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
It’s not your doing. It’s HIS doing.
So what then is the commandment that causes us to be abiding in Jesus.
1 John 3:23-24
And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.
Both by the work of the Spirit.
It’s not about you. It’s about what He did.
