Laodicea the church of the end times?

I don’t know where people get the idea that the 7 churches in Revelation are 7 types of churches through out history or that Laodicea is a type of the “last days” church.

They argue that the church of Laodicea is a type of the modern church today.

Seriously where in the world did they get this kind of inspirations from?

The text is simple. It’s speaks of the lukewarm church. The lukewarm-ness here actually speaks about the problem of water supply to Laodicea from Colossae.

Laodicea is a city located next to Colossae. It is a rich place. The only problem was that the water there is derived from the source outside the city.

They are supplied from Colossae to a system of ducts. After sometime the fresh water leaves residue on these ducts. The water becomes contaminated with these elements of impurities by the time it reaches Laodicea.

So the water become mixed with impurities. It also loses its freshness as it becomes lukewarm. So when a person drinks it, most likely they would spit it out. However they while then treat the water and drink it.

Hence, it has nothing to do with Jesus renouncing you. Rather it’s about the condition of the church. Jesus was using an example of a problem prevalent to Laodicea AT THAT time. Not now.

A careful reading would show us that the church had similar problems with false teaching in Colossae.

See this.

Colossians 2:1
I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.

So you see the issue there is contaminated water. The gospel was contaminated. Not the people.

Further Jesus used an illustration from a problem at THAT time. Today such problems don’t exist. It’s already 2015.

Also the letter of Revelation is written to the 7 churches at that time. These 7 churches existed together at the same time only for a short period before AD70.

It is also written to the churches in Asia. Not the whole world.

Revelation 1:4
Greetings and Doxology
John,
To the seven churches in the province of Asia:
Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne,

Please note that it is therefore not a worldwide tribulation. Jesus himself said it will be around the region of Judea.

Matthew 24:16-17
then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house.

Asia Minor.

Not America. Not China. Not even South East Asia.

Let those who have ears, let them hear.

Believe in a truth that brings peace to your heart rather than listening to a teaching that tells you that the devil will soon take over the world.

The tribulation happened at that time.

Not now.

  1. One source for this belief came from William Branham. He wrote a book entitled, “An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages.” He was a founder of the “Latter Rain Movement.”

Thank you for your explanation concerning the water system of Laodicea. When we blend the Gospel with any other impurity we are being unfaithful to God.

I’m not sure I agree with all of your post, but I do agree with the necessity to keep the Gospel pure.
