Mark 5:35-36 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
What does it mean to “only believe”? Unfortunately many read this Scripture and think to “only believe” means that they are to look to themselves and to their own faith or ability to believe for the breakthrough they need. But was Jesus saying to Jairus “You must only have faith for me to heal your daughter?”
When you know what the words “only” and “believe” mean you will understand that this was NOT based on Jairus “ability to believe” but on Jesus “willingness to heal” and to show Himself strong in the situation.
